Our community deserves accessible dance. Help us set the barre.
When you think of ballet, what do you think of? Tiny ballerinas twirling in pink tutus? Graceful dancers in pointe shoes on stage? What about teens building their self-confidence with conditioning classes, or aging adults taking a seated class to feel rejuvenated and energized? What about a class of refugee women and their children communicating through movement because they speak five different languages?
At Neglia, ballet goes far beyond pointe shoes, leotards and performances; it breathes life into the community, joy into individuals, and fosters commonality that needs no words.
As we continue to set the barre for quality training, artistry and world-class productions in Western New York, we are striving to raise the barre for community wellness in WNY through our public CityDance programs.
This past year, with help from donors like you, we’ve started serving a wider demographic within our community. Since welcoming new staff members last August Neglia has provided 86 engagement hours offering 8 different types of free classes to 4 new partners (and most of that was in the last 6 months!)
For decades we’ve said “ballet is for everyone” and now we are creating even more no-cost opportunities for our community to experience the benefits of dance by building partnerships, expanding services, and eliminating obstacles to ensure our programs are accessible.
We take pride in hearing audience members express that our performances are “worthy of being on stage at the Kennedy Center!” We tear when our alumni fondly recall their time in our studio and credit Neglia to their success. Now we see our CityDance participants thriving, and we are overjoyed!
Donations help us fund community classes, provide conservatory scholarships, bring acclaimed dancers to Buffalo, and create beautiful sets and costumes for performances! Please share in our passion and belief that “ballet is everyone” by making a gift today.
